Highlands Historic Cathedral Turned Upscale Mexican Eatery

Another #ThisisLouisville moment. Our friends at Silver Dollar took an old firehouse and turned it into a chicken & waffles bourbon bar and now we have @nochemexicanbbq taking a Historic Cathedral and flipping it into an authentic Mexican BBQ restaurant. Louisville is unique in the way we repurpose buildings and Noche may be top of that list.

The moment we stepped foot in the door, we thought we were in for a late night mass. The stairs, walls, and original stain glass really brought the church vibes. One of the coolest parts of this place is the ambience. They did a great job with keeping the historic nature of the cathedral but adding a modern, upscale twist to the restaurant.

As for the food, it was all terrific. Salsa was handmade and so good (a bit spicy), guac was phenomenal, and queso was solid. The tacos were really standouts - the carnitas taco might have been the best in Louisville, also a little spicy. If you order a burrito you get two, and you should ladle the queso on top. We tried the Fajitas as well, they were good but pretty standard, nothing special. They’re known for their brisket, which we were told by our server so we recommend that as well. Agave margaritas were perfect, beer was cold.

They have opened a patio as well so this summer is beer and nachos on the patio (their nachos are hugggee). All in all, a great experience from the second we walked in. Great job, y’all. Looking forward to coming back soon!

*NOTE they’re quite packed so make sure to call for a reservation.
