Hello: Fleur de Flea

@fleurdeflea

It’s been a couple of decades since the gray building at the corner of Swan Street and East Breckinridge Street was the home of Swan Street Antique Mall. With the grand opening of Fleur de Flea Vintage Urban Market over the weekend, some of those old retro vibes came back.

The 25,000-square-foot space was buzzing with shoppers and curiosity-seekers, and they didn’t seem disappointed when we visited. People gathered outside as a greeter welcomed antique hunters and thanked everyone as they left with arms filled with everything from vintage vinyl to retro dishware to Hawaiian shirts.

At the front of the space, vendors offered up food from The Cafe, not to mention coffee, mixed drinks and local craft beer (False Idol Independent Brewers was front and center).

The whole experience comes with a quirky, fun vibe. A couple of vintage booths in the front corner of the vintage mall are back-dropped by a massive Phillips 66 sign. Antique toys litter the booths, including a rare Mr. Machine toy that was first introduced in 1960.

Near the back, another booth offered vintage concert shirts and audio/musical equipment, while a gentleman strummed an electric guitar and chatted with shoppers. Not far away, one area focused on vintage furniture and architectural salvage.
